An exciting opportunity has arisen for a seasoned and influential risk professional to join Bendigo Bank. As our Operational Risk Manager (Incident Management), internally referred to as Manager, Events and Emerging Issues, you will play a pivotal part in maturing our risk management capabilities and helping to shape a simpler, more efficient bank as part of our 2030 strategy.

You will be a key member of Group Risk, the second line of defence in the Bank’s risk management approach. This crucial division provides independent oversight and includes the functions of Group Operational Risk (GOR), Credit Risk Management, Risk Governance, and Middle Office.

What you’ll be responsible for

This is a highly influential role where you will challenge, guide, and uplift the Bank's approach to operational risk. Your key responsibilities will include:

• Providing critical oversight and constructive challenge on the management of operational risk events across the business.
• Leading the analysis of internal data to proactively identify and report on emerging trends and systemic issues.
• Driving the continuous improvement of our operational risk framework, enhancing our root cause analysis capabilities to foster a mature risk culture.
• Acting as a key subject matter expert, providing assurance, expert guidance, and advice to our first-line-of-defence partners.
• Conducting targeted assurance reviews and deep dives, delivering valuable insights to senior leadership and board-level committees.
• Championing a proactive risk culture that directly supports the Bank’s strategic objectives.

What you’ll bring to the role

We are seeking a candidate who can navigate a complex stakeholder environment with confidence and collaboration. The ideal candidate will bring:

• Significant, demonstrated experience in operational risk management, gained within the banking or financial services industry.
• Proven expertise in managing the lifecycle of risk-specific events and performing related assurance activities.
• Exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to transform data into a compelling story that drives action.
• A natural ability to build and maintain firm, collaborative relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• The confidence to hold your ground and provide robust challenge while maintaining positive partnerships with the first line of defence.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in a related field are essential.

This role can be based in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane or Bendigo.
