We’ve never been ‘just a bank’. Just like you should never be ‘just an employee’. We’re united in our belief that in banking, better can be bigger, and together we’re making it happen.
It starts here. With Bendigo Bank… and you.
About the opportunity
The technology space is evolving, and so are we. At Bendigo Bank we are simplifying our technology function, creating clearer accountabilities aligned with our strategy and customer needs. With a focus on delivering innovative services at scale, we’re creating a future-ready customer experience and high performing culture.
As the Network Automation Engineer - Secure Networks, you will bridge the gap between traditional network engineering and software development. You will set the automation foundations, standardise our enterprise and cloud network infrastructure, and design a modern, code-driven operating model.
In this role you’ll get to…
- Establish, own, and run Network Automation, designing the frameworks that will define our future operating model.
- Drive the transition of our network infrastructure (routing, switching, firewalls, load balancing) into a highly standardised, "Infrastructure as Code" environment.
- Develop automated workflows for provisioning, configuring, and managing key network platforms like Cisco, Palo Alto, and F5
- Connect network automation platforms with critical IT Service Management systems, monitoring toolsets, and vendor APIs to enable self-service networking.
- Introduce robust software engineering practices to the network domain, including version control (Git), automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Partner closely with Cloud, Platform Engineering, Unified Communications, and Senior Management to ensure network automation seamlessly aligns with bank-wide platforms.
What you’ll bring to the role
- A strong background in enterprise networking technologies, with hands-on expertise in routing, switching, wireless, and load balancing platforms (e.g., Cisco, Palo Alto, F5).
- Solid programming and scripting skills, with practical experience using Python, Ansible, and Terraform to automate network workflow.
- Familiarity with modern development practices, including version control with GitHub, API integrations, and code-based testing.
- A passion for turning highly manual, repetitive infrastructure tasks into automated, and self-documenting workflows.
- Ability to work across multidisciplinary infrastructure and platform teams to design and implement end-to-end automated solutions.
- Certifications such as CCNP or PCNSE are highly regarded, but your hands-on ability to write code and automate networks is what matters most.
This is a permanent, full-time opportunity, located at our Melbourne or Bendigo Head Office locations.
We offer flexible work options that put our people first, working in a hybrid model with a minimum local Head Office attendance requirement determined by your Leader, to find a rhythm that works best for you and your team. We believe that coming into the office some of the time is the best way to learn, stay connected and collaborate effectively, especially for key activities like team days, 1:1s, and town halls.
We believe a diverse workforce supported by an inclusive culture is central to our success and we actively encourage applications from those who bring diversity of thought to our business. We support candidate requests for adjustment to accommodate an illness, injury, or disability to equitably participate in the selection process.
If you're already part of Bendigo Bank (including Community Banks), you'll need to apply through People Hub to submit a valid application. We’re keen to support you with the next step in your career.
Still in two minds?
Research suggests 60% of women and underrepresented groups might stop here, even after getting as far as drafting an application. We believe that diversity makes every team stronger, so even if you don’t tick every box we still want to see your application!
Please note shortlisting and interviews may take place prior to the advertised close date, so don't delay apply now!
