About the role

The Senior Manager Financial Crime Transaction Monitoring will report directly to the Head of Financial Crime Solutions.

You will be the central owner and architect of the bank's financial crime detection engines, practices, and framework. In this specialist leadership role, you will be focused on consolidating all transaction monitoring strategies and leading the end-to-end lifecycle of monitoring rules, from data-driven design to implementation and continuous tuning.

Your purpose is to ensure our systems are effectively and efficiently calibrated to detect suspicious activity related to money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, and other illicit activities. You will act as the critical bridge between the bank's risk appetite and its operational reality, translating policy into tangible, automated controls to protect the bank from regulatory failure.

Key accountabilities include:

  • TM Strategy & Consolidation: Design and maintain a single, enterprise-wide transaction monitoring strategy that provides appropriate risk coverage.
  • Rule Design and Development: Own the end-to-end design, development, documentation, and testing of all new automated and manual transaction monitoring rules and scenarios.
  • Rule Implementation and Tuning: Lead the successful implementation of new rules and the ongoing tuning and optimisation of the existing rule set to enhance detection quality and reduce false positives.
  • TM Model Governance & Validation: Ensure the TM rule set and underlying models are subject to rigorous governance and validation processes.
  • Risk-Based Coverage: Ensure the transaction monitoring rule set provides adequate coverage for key risks identified in the bank's Enterprise-Wide Risk Assessment (EWRA).
  • Stakeholder Partnership: Build and maintain strong partnerships with Operations and Technology teams to ensure a continuous feedback loop and manage the health of the TM platform.

What you’ll bring to the role

Essential

  • Deep knowledge of financial crime typologies (AML, CTF, Fraud) and how these behaviours manifest in transactional data.
  • Strong understanding of data structures and hands-on proficiency with SQL for complex data analysis.
  • Expert knowledge of transaction monitoring systems (specifically NetReveal).
  • A structured and methodical approach to diagnosing issues, testing hypotheses, and developing effective solutions.
  • Excellent documentation skills to create a clear and auditable trail for regulators.

Highly desirable

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field.
  • Financial Crime industry qualifications such as ACAMs or AFCS.

This is a permanent full-time position located in Melbourne, Bendigo, Adelaide, Sydney or Brisbane.
