Shape the future of one of Australia's leading financial institutions. As Head of Group Strategy at Bendigo Bank, you will drive our 2030 strategic agenda, lead high-performing teams, and partner directly with the Executive team and Board to deliver sustainable, long-term growth.
We’ve never been ‘just a bank’. Just like you should never be ‘just an employee’. We’re united in our belief that in banking, better can be bigger, and together we’re making it happen.
It starts here. With Bendigo Bank… and you.
At Bendigo Bank, our purpose is to feed into the prosperity of our customers and communities. With national scale, a multi-brand portfolio, and a deeply loyal customer base, we are executing a disciplined agenda to deliver competitive returns, modernise our operations, and foster sustainable growth across Australia.
Joining Bendigo Bank means leading at an enterprise level where your strategic insight directly influences our trajectory, governance, and commercial success.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the General Manager, Group Strategy, the Head of Group Strategy is an enterprise leadership role responsible for orchestrating the Bank's overarching strategic vision, corporate planning cycles, and portfolio prioritisation.
In this role, you will take ownership of the Bank’s 2030 Strategy, translating high-level enterprise ambitions into actionable, commercially grounded strategic roadmaps. Working at the intersection of long-term vision and operational delivery, you will forge an integral partnership with the Group Transformation Office to ensure seamless alignment between strategic intent and execution capability.
This is a premier opportunity for an established senior strategy professional or management consulting alumnus within banking and financial services who is ready to step into an influential, career-defining enterprise leadership position.
You’ll get to:
- Lead the ongoing development and refinement of our 2030 enterprise strategy, navigating industry headwinds, macroeconomic shifts, and competitive dynamics.
- Act as a trusted strategic advisor to the Executive Leadership Team and Board, preparing high-calibre strategic papers, market analyses, and commercial recommendations.
- Partner closely with the Group Transformation Office to ensure the Bank’s strategic priorities and investment portfolio directly inform major change programmes and capital allocation.
- Orchestrate the annual corporate strategic planning cycle, working across business units (Retail, Business Banking, Technology, and Operations) to establish clear accountability and measurable performance metrics.
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing strategy team comprising Senior Managers and Strategy & Performance Analysts, fostering commercial acumen, analytical rigour, and structured problem-solving.
- Monitor competitive intelligence, regulatory developments, emerging fintech models, and M&A/partnership opportunities to inform future-state growth options.
About You
We are seeking an ambitious, analytically rigorous, and commercially astute leader with an established track record within Australian banking and financial services.
What you’ll bring:
- Significant experience gained within a Tier 1 management consultancy (focusing on Financial Services/Banking) or within an in-house corporate strategy, corporate development, or transformation function at a major bank or financial institution.
- Deep understanding of the Australian banking landscape, including prudential and regulatory environments, banking balance sheets, capital management, and retail/commercial product economics.
- Proven ability to engage, influence, and challenge senior executives and Board members, with top-tier executive presence and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience bridging corporate strategy with delivery, particularly working alongside transformation or PMO functions to govern strategic execution.
- A strong track record of coaching, developing, and leading high-calibre strategy professionals and analysts, setting high standards of delivery.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Economics, Finance, or a related discipline. A post-graduate qualification (e.g., MBA, CFA) is highly regarded.
