We’ve never been ‘just a bank’. Just like you should never be ‘just an employee’. We’re united in our belief that in banking, better can be bigger, and together we’re making it happen.

It starts here. With Bendigo Bank… and you.

About the opportunity

Are you passionate about cultivating talented teams and creating an environment where people can do their best work? We're looking for an empathetic and collaborative Engineering Leader to guide one or more of our cross-functional squads.

In this role, you will be the heart of the team, fostering a culture of psychological safety and trust. Your mission is to nurture the health and growth of both our people and the services they create, ensuring we deliver exceptional and reliable outcomes for our customers.

How You'll Help Our Team Flourish

In this role, your leadership will be about creating a supportive and collaborative environment where everyone can contribute their best work.  In this role you will get to:

  • Guide and Empower:  Nurture your teams as they thoughtfully craft scalable, secure, and reliable solutions that bring our shared goals to life for our customers.
  • Foster Craftsmanship:  Champion a culture of quality and continuous improvement, encouraging beautiful code, robust testing, and smooth, secure delivery pipelines.
  • Connect and Support:  Dedicate meaningful time to each team member through regular check-ins, creating a safe space for supportive feedback and conversations about their growth.
  • Mentor Career Journeys:  Partner with individuals to map out their career aspirations, using clear frameworks and goals to help them build their skills and thrive.
  • Collaborate on Clarity:  Build a strong partnership with our Technical Product Owners to shape a clear, inspiring, and achievable backlog that gives the team purpose and focus.

What you’ll bring to the role

We believe that leadership is about connection, growth, and support. We're excited to meet people who have:

  • Related experience as an engineering leader who has led a QE team and understands testing frameworks, software design solutions, production and automation.
  • A passion for nurturing product led QE teams to collaboratively build and deliver excellence in this space and remove manual work where possible.
  • A gift for coaching and mentoring, with a genuine desire to help others grow in their careers and advance them on their automation journey.
  • A natural ability to connect with people, building strong relationships and clear communication bridges.
  • Experience integrating QE with CI/CD pipelines and ‘Shifting Left’.
  • An appreciation for technical craftsmanship and the ability to guide teams through modern, cloud-native design whilst embracing newer AI automation technologies eg Synthesised data testing, automated test scripts
  • Experience with Python, Git, Tosca, Playwright and qTest is highly desirable.
  • A background in Software Engineering is desirable.

So, why work with us?

  • Want big impact that matters? Here, you’ll know your work directly benefits the customers and communities we all serve.
  • Want to be more than just a number? Join a team that truly values you – and that gets more diverse every day.
  • Want career opportunity AND flexibility? Achieve both here, where we know that balance and progression go hand in hand.

You’ll also get access to a great range of benefits, including:

Hybrid work? Flexible hours? A compressed work week? Our flexible work options are designed to suit your life.  This role can be based in either our brand-new office location in Melbourne CBD, Bendigo or Adelaide Head Offices.  We offer flexible work options that put our people first, working in a hybrid model with a minimum local Head Office attendance requirement determined by your Leader, to find a rhythm that works best for you and your team.  We believe that coming into the office some of the time is the best way to learn, stay connected and collaborate effectively, especially for key activities like team days, 1:1s, and town halls.

Health and well-being support, including discounted gym memberships, private health insurance options, and our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for you and your immediate family members.

Take your learning to the next level through opportunities like our corporate university ‘BEN U’ or at an external provider of your choice.

We’re making better, bigger. And we’ll get there with you

Could you be our newest team member? Now’s the time to set your sights even higher – on the future you and the future career you deserve.  Please note shortlisting and interviews may take place prior to the advertised close date, so don't delay apply now!

We believe a diverse workforce supported by an inclusive culture is central to our success and we actively encourage applications from those who bring diversity of thought to our business. We support candidate requests for adjustment to accommodate an illness, injury, or disability to equitably participate in the selection process.

Still in two minds?

Research suggests 60% of women and underrepresented groups might stop here, even after getting as far as drafting an application. We believe that diversity makes every team stronger, so even if you don’t tick every box we still want to see your application!

We love the support recruitment agencies give our businesses every day, however, we have got this.  Our superstar talent advisors will reach out to our fabulous panel if we need a helping hand.

If you're already part of Bendigo Bank (including Community Banks), you'll need to apply through People Hub to submit a valid application. We’re keen to support you with the next step in your career.
