Are you a people-first kind of individual who thrives on supporting others with a customer first mentality?

It starts here. With Bendigo Bank… and you.

About the role
Every day, our people handle vital data—from the details of our customers and transactions to physical assets and processes. We are looking for a hands-on Data Governance Specialist to act as the central data governance expert for our Customer Enablement division.

In this critical new role, you will bridge the gap between data and business processes. Your initial focus will be conducting a comprehensive stocktake of our Critical and Sensitive Data Elements (CDEs) across key domains, including Asset, Customer Complaints, Customer Support & Services, Process Architecture, Products, and Operational Risk.

By tracing how data is created, transformed, and managed throughout its journey, you will help us improve data quality, reduce risk, and ensure we consistently meet our regulatory obligations. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Systems and Document Management, you will do the heavy lifting for our General Managers (Data Custodians), providing them with clear, process-mapped insights to make informed decisions.

What you will be doing

  • Data Discovery & Stocktake: Lead the initial identification and cataloguing of Critical and Sensitive Data Elements (CDEs) across all Customer Enablement data domains using our enterprise governance tools.
  • Process & Value Stream Mapping: Follow the journey of our data. Map where data is created, transformed, and consumed by downstream teams to understand its flow and find the root cause of any quality issues.
  • Support Data Custodians: Act as the key conduit between Divisional Data Custodians, Data Trust & Governance, and the Data and AI Portfolio. You will draft access controls, develop lifecycle processes, and ensure critical group data assets meet enterprise standards.
  • Drive the Data Maturity Roadmap: Develop, manage, and deliver the Customer Enablement data maturity roadmap, ensuring data governance goals practically connect with our broader business objectives.
  • Champion Best Practice: Review proposed data processes or system changes, actively challenging the status quo and bringing external best practices into our daily operations.

What you will bring

  • Experience: 2+ years in a data management, governance, risk, or compliance role, ideally within a large, complex, or commercial banking environment.
  • Data & Process Expertise: A strong ability to define and catalogue business data (CDEs) alongside a proven track record of understanding business processes, value streams, and data flow.
  • Problem Solving & Systems: Advanced knowledge of banking systems, regulatory environments, and reporting tools like PowerBI. Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification is highly regarded.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex data policies into simple, practical business terms for senior leaders, strategic partners, and operational teams.
  • Continuous Improvement Mindset: A passion for executing roadmaps, improving operational data problems, and driving tangible maturity uplift.
