As we continue to enhance our capabilities, this is a unique opportunity to provide critical expertise, strategic thinking, and effective challenge to uplift the bank’s resilience against financial crime. We are currently recruiting a driven and experienced leader to join our Group Risk function. As a specialist in our Financial Crime Risk team, you’ll make an impact by:

  • Shaping our financial crime defenses by providing clear, accurate, and robust advice and independent challenge to assigned business units across Bendigo and Adelaide Bank.
  • Translating complex financial crime obligations into practical, actionable advice and guidance, ensuring our teams have the insights they need to protect the bank, our customers, and the community.
  • Leading engagement on risk management by acting as the primary "front door" for Financial Crime Risk (FCR) with your assigned business areas guiding them through risk assessments, issue management, and remediation.
  • Fostering a proactive risk culture and collaborating closely with peers across Financial Crime Risk, Operations, and broader Group Risk to drive our Financial Crime Risk Strategy forward.


About the role

The Senior Manager, Financial Crime Advisory reports directly to the Head of Financial Crime Advisory and Training.

 

In this pivotal leadership and specialist role, you will be at the forefront of protecting BEN from regulatory, reputational, and financial risks. Operating as a subject matter expert across the "Financial Crime Ecosystem" (including AML/CTF, Sanctions, Fraud, Anti-Bribery & Corruption, and FATCA/CRS), you will provide critical second-line oversight. You will lead engagement with assigned business segments which may include Consumer Banking, Business Banking, Agri-banking, UpBank, Technology, or Operations ensuring compliance and driving a high-performance risk culture.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Advisory & Oversight: Proactively develop and deliver expert financial crime advice, interpreting complex legislative and policy requirements to guide assigned business units on their resulting obligations.
  • Independent Challenge: Provide robust independent challenge and oversight regarding the effectiveness of BEN’s financial crime practices, controls, and risk-in-change activities.
  • Risk Assessments & Issue Management: Lead engagement with business units on routine and ad-hoc financial crime risk assessments, as well as issue identification, escalation, remediation, and closure.
  • Leadership: Lead the FCR Advisory function for your assigned businesses, driving talent and succession plans, providing coaching and feedback, and collaborating effectively across 1LoD, 2LoD, and 3LoD teams.
  • Organizational Resilience: Support business continuity and scenario analysis efforts, helping the business minimize disruption and conduct Post Incident Reviews if financial crime incidents occur.


What you’ll bring to the role


Essential

  • Significant financial crime risk experience in the banking/financial services industry with deep, diverse knowledge of a bank's operations and financial crime environment.
  • Deep subject matter expertise across key elements of the financial crime ecosystem (AML/CTF, Sanctions, Fraud, ABC, and/or FATCA/CRS).
  • Proven leadership experience (Senior Manager level preferred) with a track record of driving a high-performance culture, developing talent, and managing direct reports.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the demonstrated ability to provide constructive challenge and drive change at all levels of seniority.
  • Strong capability in managing Risk in Change, continuous improvement, and applying operational/organizational resilience principles.


Highly desirable

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (e.g., Law, Finance, Business).
  • Recognized Financial Crime Industry certifications (e.g., ACAMS, AFCS).


This is a permanent full-time position located in Melbourne, Bendigo, Adelaide, Sydney, or Brisbane.
